Description
This stone is named for the Labrador region of northeastern Canada, where it comes from. Here, Inuit legend tells of a warrior who found the Northern Lights trapped in labradorite until he liberated them with the blow of his spear. Indeed, the stone exhibits lustrous metallic tints, which gemologists call labradorescence. Metaphysically, labradorite is thought to act as a shield deflecting negative influences. Mohs hardness: 6-6.5
