Description
Emerald Faceted Rounds. Emerald is a symbol of rebirth, and believed to grant the owner foresight, good fortune, and youth. Emerald, derived from the word “smaragdus,” means, quite literally, “green” in Greek.
Found mainly in Columbia, more recent mines are in Brazil, Africa, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Mohs hardness: 7.5-8. Natural emeralds may contain fractures or be enhanced, so never put them in an ultrasonic cleaner.
Emerald is also the birthstone for May, and the gemstone for twentieth and thirty-fifth wedding anniversaries.
